Dear Family and Friends,

As many of you are aware, during my twenties, thirties and sometimes later, I worked and travelled abroad, regularly writing letters home, besides keeping  journals.

Well, on Christmas Day 2020, locked in, alone at home in London, entertained by Michael Palin on TV, looking back through his journals and TV travels through the Middle East, I suddenly remembered that I’d travelled in that area too, many years ago.

I scoured my bookshelves, packed with books, files and memorabilia of the last forty years, found what I was looking for and began to type. I so enjoyed rediscovering forgotten foreign experiences that I thought the travellers and/or readers amongst you might enjoy them too. Hence The Blog of Pen.
